Why Bangkok Is One Of My Favourite Cities In The World
When I first travelled to Thailand, Bangkok was one of the cities that completely changed my view of travelling. Before coming to Asia, I had never experienced a city like it. The energy, street food, nightlife, shopping malls, rooftop bars, and constant movement made Bangkok feel exciting from the moment I arrived.
Over the years I’ve stayed in a few different parts of the city, but Sukhumvit is one of the areas I’ve enjoyed the most. It has easy access to the BTS Skytrain, endless restaurants and cafés, rooftop bars, shopping malls, and some of the best nightlife in Bangkok. Even though the city is huge, Bangkok feels surprisingly easy to explore once you learn how to use the transport system.
One of my favourite experiences in Bangkok was visiting ICONSIAM for the first time. The mall itself is massive, but the riverside views, food areas, and evening atmosphere around the river make it feel very different from normal shopping centres. I’ve also spent time using the river boats along the Chao Phraya River which is honestly one of the best ways to see the city without sitting in traffic.
I’ve also stayed near Khao San Road in a hostel around a 10-minute walk away, and the nightlife there is completely different to anywhere else in Bangkok. The nights out on Khao San Road are chaotic, loud, and unforgettable. It’s one of those places every backpacker ends up visiting at least once.
Another place I really enjoyed was Chatuchak Weekend Market, also known as JJ Market. The market is so big that I ended up getting lost for hours walking around the different sections, shopping, trying street food, and exploring random stalls. It’s one of the best places in Bangkok for markets and local shopping.
For me, Bangkok is one of my favourite cities in the world because there’s always something happening. One minute you can be in a luxury rooftop bar overlooking the skyline, and the next you’re eating street food on the side of the road or exploring local markets. Every trip to Bangkok feels different, which is one of the reasons I keep wanting to go back.
