Chaweng

My Koh Samui Experience
Koh Samui has become one of those places I keep finding myself coming back to. I've visited the island three different times now, and every trip has been slightly different, but there are a few things I always end up doing. For me, the island is the perfect mix of beaches, nightlife, great views, and island life without feeling quite as hectic as somewhere like Phuket.
One of my favourite things to do is hire a motorbike and spend the day riding around the island. Koh Samui is one of the easiest islands in Thailand to explore this way because you can drive the coastal roads, stop at different beaches, grab food along the way, and discover places you probably wouldn't find otherwise. Some of my favourite days have simply been riding around with no real plan and seeing where the road takes me.
I've spent most of my time staying around Chaweng, which is probably why it remains my favourite area on the island. During the day I'll often head down to Ark Bar, grab a drink, use the pool, and spend a few hours on the beach before heading out again in the evening. Chaweng has the best nightlife, but it also has plenty of restaurants, cafés, beach clubs, and hotels, making it a really easy base for a holiday.
One place I always recommend visiting is Jungle Club. The views from up there are incredible and give you one of the best panoramas of the island. I've also visited the famous hand viewpoint overlooking the coastline, which is another great stop if you're exploring by bike. The island has no shortage of viewpoints, hidden beaches, and scenic coastal roads, which is one of the reasons I enjoy coming back.
Koh Samui is also usually the starting point for my trips to Koh Tao. I normally catch the Lomprayah ferry from the pier near Bangrak before heading over to Koh Tao for scuba diving trips with my girlfriend. The journey is easy and it's one of the reasons Koh Samui works so well as a base for exploring the surrounding islands. If you're planning to visit Koh Tao as well, it's one of the most popular and convenient routes to take.
What I like most about Koh Samui is that it can be whatever type of trip you want it to be. You can spend your days relaxing on beaches, exploring waterfalls and viewpoints, taking boat trips to nearby islands, or enjoying the nightlife around Chaweng. Every time I've visited, it's felt like the perfect island to slow down for a few days, enjoy the sunshine, and make the most of everything Thailand's islands have to offer.

Absolutely. Koh Samui is one of the main departure points for ferries to Koh Tao. The journey usually takes around 1.5 hours depending on the service, making it an easy day trip or multi-day extension to your trip.

Bophut and Choeng Mon are often considered the best areas to stay for couples. Both offer beautiful beaches, romantic restaurants, boutique hotels, luxury resorts, and a quieter atmosphere than Chaweng.
